Even in high school, I like a theme. I have to be in that room for HOURS a day, and well, I really want it to be a happy place.

I got this fabric for my bulletin board behind my desk. I'll add a black and white polka dot ribbon and a black and white paw print ribbon to make a French Memo Board look.

My other bulletin board will be black with a turquoise border. I still have to get the turquoise border. I will have an "instagram" section for school pictures throughout the year. The other will be something dog/pathway related. I haven't decided yet. I'm thinking....

I have to go back in two weeks--I'm going July 31st so that I can have August 1st off. Then I'll have a three day weekend before school starts. The kids will be back on August 7th. Eek!

So life. Yeah, that gets in the way of what I want to do sometimes.

Mark and I are still clicking along. He's in school now and not working. He's got a 3.8 GPA. Go him!

We now have 3 dogs instead of one...Boris is 8; Lucy is 5; and Angus is 2. We're busy! :)

I will start my 21st year of teaching in August. How did that happen so quickly?

The saddest part of my time away is that my very best friend, my Nana, died on January 28th. Losing her has been the most difficult thing in my life. I miss her every day. Every.single. day.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-49298297577920599602013-06-14T11:35:00.002-07:002013-06-14T11:35:23.114-07:00Um hi. :)

I've been working on my classroom décor for next year. I had zebra and pink for last year. Yeah, I'm over that. It showed up everywhere! I'm going to nautical this year. I don't want it to be too childish, but at the same time....CUTE!

I've found though that most people think of nautical as a home décor and not a classroom one. Erg. I've ended up having to make most of the things for my classroom by myself. I've made binder covers, hall passes, etc. I'm actually loving the look of the blue, white, red, yellow, and, in my case, lime green. :)
I have become one of THOSE people you see in the grocery store with the coupon binder. I hardly buy anything without a coupon, seriously.

I do Rite-Aid trips and score big sales. I think Mark and Kerry have enough guy body wash and deodorant to last for a while, but I can't stop getting the good deals. I'd rather have a stockpile than not enough...especially when they practically pay me to take the stuff out of the store.

I went to Publix yesterday. I spent 136.00, but saved over 100.00 on stuff we WILL use. That is my rule...if it isn't something we would normally use or try I won't buy it. No need in buying junk that will just take up room when I could use that room for good stuff! :) One of the great deals that I got at Publix yesterday was 10 jars of Peter Pan peanut butter for .79 each. The other good deal...shredded Sargento cheese...2 for $4. I have $1.00 off coupons for each bag. So, I go Sargento shredded cheese for a buck a bag! Whoot! Plus, I had two .40 off coupons for additional savings on two bags. I was especially excited about that. Sad, but true. ;)DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-79958464610262962512011-04-26T11:02:00.001-07:002011-04-26T11:05:13.745-07:00Spring Break! YES!Finally....Spring Break! Whew!

The last week before Spring Break was ridiculous! The teachers were asked to eat lunch with the students in the common area because we had so many fights. Insanity. We typically have very few fights at our school. I don't know what was up with the kids.

Mark and I are going to the Shakespeare Tavern for my birthday. I'm SO excited! We're going to get to see Midsummer Night's Dream. I was, for the first time in many years, thinking about putting out applications for other jobs...other schools. I was SICK of the students I had. I was sick of the apathy. I was sick of the rude, rude children. By the end of the semester, I was just counting the days until holiday vacation. I'm glad that I stuck it out. I have great classes this time. Apparently, I just needed to get to Spring semester. Now, I'm sure that by May I will be ready for a new crew of students, but so far I've really enjoyed my classes. They have the cutest personalities! Seriously!

I have SO much homework keeping up with them though. They are a smart group, and I have to be on my toes! :)

Today has been a super lazy day. I've loaded the dishwasher today. Yeah, that's about it. I've watched a lot of Law and Order as well. Other than that....nada. I need to do laundry (which I'm sure I'll get to), and I need to get groceries.

I have a HUGE bruise on my right forearm. OUCH! I fell when I was taking out the garbage. Yeah, I'm a klutz. :|

Valentine's Day is Monday. I'm excited about the stuff I got Mark. I hope that he likes it.

I got the students Mad Lib Valentine pencils and Laffy Taffy....they better love me ;)DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-45154775498663169452011-01-03T16:19:00.000-08:002011-01-03T18:50:29.557-08:00Book ChallengeIn addition to my list earlier, I'm going to do the Books I Should Have Read in High School challenge. I'm super excited!

I'm going to read 12 books:
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading Between the Lines by Thomas C. I can't say that I am ready to go back. I'm not. I enjoy staying home and being slothful. I enjoy cooking more when I don't have to come home and rush to get everything cooked and on the table before midnight. I enjoy snuggling down with a good book whenever I want. I guess I can deal with 90 more school days. I certainly hope that spring semester is much better than fall was. I am not one to be overly grouchy or "srunch-y faced" all the time, but my classes last semester did that to me. Even with my worst classes I could usually find at least one class of the three that I liked...not last semester.

In other random news, I'm going to miss gingerbread Pop Tarts. Sad, I know!

Mark has gone back to 4-day weeks. It means he won't get home until about 6:30 tonight which stinks. I really do miss my husband when he's not around. There isn't anyone I'd rather spend my time with, really.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-65822152692983286822011-01-02T13:28:00.000-08:002011-01-05T04:07:24.515-08:00Books for 2011I love making lists...I just need to learn to follow them more :/

Here is the list of books I would like to read this year. I hope you did too. Mark got me a Keurig! YAY! I'm now officially a coffee junkie ;)

Christmas was pretty low-key. Nana came home for a few days. She behaved fairly well. I cooked Christmas breakfast and lunch/dinner. We all ate like hawgs! :)

My mom is coming down tomorrow to visit for a little while and see my grandmother. I know she will bring presents (ie. money). YAY!

I got tons of other stuff for Christmas as well. For the first time, I don't think I got any jewelry or clothes. I think I will have to remedy that...heehee.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-29998069572457663162010-10-17T14:44:00.000-07:002010-10-17T14:54:27.190-07:00Sick...so sick...I have been so sick. Oh my gosh, I missed two days of school. Plus, I missed my fourth period last week. I've had two sinus infections. Joy. I was on one round of antibiotics before I left for Atlanta. I'm on my second round now. Plus, I have "the magic" cough syrup.

I went to Atlanta to work on GHSGT stuff. I spent three days looking at test questions and data. It was interesting. I always like to see what is on the test. Of course, I can't tell anyone. Daggumit! :)

Becky went with me. She just took three personal days and crashed. She needed some days off from her own teenagers. She's got 90 a day and 2 at home. I would looooooooose my mind! We had another teacher, Kelly, who went with us as well. She teaches math so she was looking at all the math test data.

We all went shopping. YAY. I love shopping in Atlanta. There is so much more to select from up there. I found a bunch of sale stuff at Macy's that I made mine. I didn't find a whole bunch of fall stuff though. Hmmm :/ I'm just finding too much that I like. Finding pants was IMPOSSIBLE. Every single petite I tried on was WAY too long. I guess I'm stuck with Lee pants...period. They are the only ones I do not have to hem...ever. I got some beautiful flower pins from H&M. I got some Crocs boots.

I've had a fairly lazy weekend. I did some laundry yesterday and today. I need to grade some papers and make dinner, but I don't see the paper grading thing happening. Er.

I made a huge pot of crockpot chili yesterday. It was SO good. I had a serving. Mark and Kerry ate all the rest of it. Gracious, I can't believe it is already gone. Ha.

I need to make something for supper...I guess I should get on that.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-25893426713723289702010-10-03T05:47:00.000-07:002010-10-03T05:55:22.285-07:00Good bye horrible week....Last week was the most horrible week I have had in some years...Let's recap shall we...
Monday...I work afterschool in a remediation program. Someone in that program decided it was a good idea to steal my Blackberry. Steal. UGH! Mark and I drove to Valdosta got everything switched over. About 10:30PM, the night janitor at my school called. Apparently whoever had taken the phone didn't want to get caught with it. They threw it down in the common area. (Well, at least Mark got a new blackberry).

Tuesday...I had someone (UNANNOUNCED) observe my class all day. OMG. I was so stressed out and tired. My students acted like animals! ANIMALS!

Wednesday...I'm sitting at my desk. My students are debriefing and attempting to chillllll from the writing test when a young woman comes in at ask if another student can work on a door decoration for homecoming (yeah...Homecoming on the SAME week as our state mandated writing test....awesome!). I said no because we were busy. The child looked at me...turned around...and said "F**k you". What?!? First, I don't even know this child...she isn't one of my students. Second, are you kidding me?!? I tracked her down and got her written up. She jumped all over our academic coach and the assistant principal as well.

Thursday...one of my seniors got very upset because he is frustrated because he is not doing well. He slammed his book shut (DURING AN OPEN BOOK TEST) and said that he was not "taking this s**t any more" and got up and walked out. Good gosh! We had a major blowout in the office. The principal made him cry. I was in tears because this is usually a good kid. We got it all straightened out, but good grief!

Friday...pep rally day. Let me just say that if _I_ were in charge the juniors would never get to go to another pep rally, assembly, etc. ever. Rude, rude, rude. There were a couple of us who got pelted with peanut M&Ms. Lovely.

I am so very much hating school this semster. I keep telling myself that I only have about 10 more weeks with these...ahem, darlings. It HAS to get better second semester....has to!DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-21933556112626755352010-09-20T11:42:00.001-07:002010-09-20T11:46:07.129-07:00Giveaway AlertGo here to enter Courtney's awesome CSN giveaway.

I should be back to blog later.

Yeah, I'm home sick today. *coughcoughcough* Sigh!DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-3425338196472748922010-09-06T13:36:00.000-07:002010-09-06T13:49:09.302-07:00Oh my gosh...Okay, it has been forever since I've written here. It has been one of those ummm months.

School started back, and I have been overwhelmed. My classes are jam-packed. I have 31 seniors. Thirty-one! UGH! It is difficult to get all of them to focus and on the same page. I've tried to teach them MLA and it has been so hard. However, I think that most of them have gotten it, finally. I'm still grading thier working bibliographies...*eye roll* I don't have a clue how in the world I'm going to get all the papers graded for my three classes. Oh well, whine, whine, whine....it will get done because it has to get done. That's all there is to that.

My juniors are a whole other story. I had heard for two years how "bad" and immature this class was. OH MY GOSH, the other teachers were right. I just get all grouchy thinking about them. I am already counting the days until next semester. Seriously.

We had today off. It was such a welcome day off. I really needed it. I've done laundry all day. It has been piling up since school started...oops!

I got to spend yesterday with my friend Tammy. YEAH! I had a great time with her! I have missed her so much. She added so much happiness and energy to our department, and we all miss her terribly. I know she is very glad to be living with her hubby full time (he was off at grad school), but daggumit, they need to live closer! :)

I need to go finish some more laundry. Oh joy. Plus, I need to go read my book The Reliable Wife.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-89145733572246877802010-08-15T15:01:00.000-07:002010-08-15T15:12:05.838-07:00WeekendI have to say that Friday was much MUCH better than Wednesday or Thursday. I think I was just so overwhelmed by the start of school. Seriously overwhelmed. I have everything ready for Monday, except for a quiz. I need to make copies of the quiz for the Robert L. Stevenson notes from last week.

Friday night I stayed up until Mark came home. Once we fell asleep he said that snored like a freight train. I crashed and crashed hard. I slept until 10:30 on Saturday. Once I woke up I felt like a million bucks! I think I just needed the time to sleep and truly get some rest. When Mark had to work nights, I was awake or not sleeping deeply until 1AM and then waking up at 6AM. Ummm, yeah, not so much.

Yesterday I went grocery shopping and today I am trying to catch up on laundry. I need to write that quiz, and I'll be set for next week. YEAH!

I went to the Beall's Outlet on Saturday before I hit Wal-mart for groceries. I got some awesome stuff! I got a pair of Liz Claiborne khaki crops and a cute Liz Claiborne green plaid shirt. I'm going to wear those tomorrow with a white tank underneath. I also found a gorgeous floral shirt from Coldwater Creek. Prettiful! Those three pieces are pretty high quality and I got them for less than $60.00 YEAH! I love the Beall's Outlet. I really should stay out of there, but I don't see that happening. ;)

I have a new snack that I am addicted to...Butter Puffcorn. I <3 it, a lot! I could probably buy it by the case. Seriously. Yum.

Okay, off to finish the laundry and iron my clothes for tomorrow.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-75930857801967434982010-08-11T13:55:00.000-07:002010-08-11T13:58:28.241-07:00So very tired...I am SO tired!

I was at school last night until after 8PM. Holy cow. I got there at 7:30 and left 12 and a half hours later. I STILL was not as ready for the first day as I like to be. Oh well...first day down and 179 more to go! ;)

I'm not really excited about my classes...so far. My senior class is FAR too big. I have 32 students. I don't even know where in the WORLD I'm going to put another two desks. I've got 30 crammed in there now. Oh well. I guess it will be what it will be.

I'm about to go home now and write about a bazillion study questions for my British Literature timeline. Joy.

I hate that Mark has to work until 11PM for the rest of the week. I basically won't see him for the next three days :(DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-50676224912929784362010-08-08T16:40:00.000-07:002010-08-08T18:51:20.292-07:00Lesson plans and Excel documentsI've been working on lesson plans all day. I have almost everything ready for the first two or three days. I have fairly big classes this time, but I know most of the kids already. They are good kids. My calendars are ready for the month (I hope!)

I have everything ready for the first three days. We go to school on Wednesday. HOLY COW! I have to have everything ready by Tuesday night. Oh my gosh, I don't think I'm going to be ready! My classroom is a wreck right now. Seriously, it is a disaster. Tomorrow we have to label books and pack up our old books. We also have textbook training tomorrow afternoon. Um. As if I have time for this...oh well, it must be done!

I'm creating an excel document right now that lists all the standards for each course. Yeah, I'm a nerd!DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-36349787923601835822010-08-08T16:38:00.000-07:002010-08-08T16:39:31.277-07:00Marley's GiveAwayMarley is hosting an awesome giveaway. Swagbucks.

Hmmm. I was unsure about it at first. Now that I have a $10.00 credit sitting in my amazon account, I'm a beliver! Seriously! YAY Swagbucks! It is simple and easy. I get "bucks" just from searching, watching a silly video, or taking a survey. I've already ordered another amazon gift card and I'm on my way to getting my fourth one. Sweet!DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-2092421201750691072010-08-06T18:05:00.000-07:002010-08-06T18:35:23.842-07:00Tired!I'm tired. Just plain tired.

We started school yesterday. We ended up having three faculty meetings yesterday. I got nothing accomplished. We had one ALL day meeting. I do mean ALL day--8AM to 4PM. Oh my gosh, I am so tired from sitting in one place for hours. It was interesting stuff, but all I could think about was all the stuff I needed to be doing in my room. We got new textbooks so we have a BUNCH of stuff to do with those--label and count. Urgh!

I am going to go to the school some times this weekend. I can see no other way to be ready for Open House and for school on Wednesday. I don't have a bulletin board up. I don't have a syllabus printed or copied. Heck, I don't have anything planned! ARRRGGGHHHH!

We have to turn in lesson plans on Monday mornings at 8AM. We haven't had to do this for years, but I think it is a good idea! I usually plan, at least, a month ahead of time...so, I don't have any problem with it.

In fact, I think I'll go work on my syllabus and monthly calendar right now. At least, I'll work on them until Mark gets home...at midnight! Yawn!DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-60194991237158107232010-07-31T15:48:00.000-07:002010-07-31T16:07:12.026-07:00new hair...new clothes...new booksI went to Valdosta today. I needed to get my hair done before school started. I got it cut, colored, and highlighted. Plus, I got my eyebrows waxed *ouch*! When I got done, I headed over to Belk's. They were having a mega sale! I got two skirts, a dress, two tank tops, and a very nice bra for less than $60.00. Score. I have tons of stuff that will match the skirts and the dress will be SO cute under a black cardigan.

Mark and I are supposed to go shopping in Jacksonville on Monday, but I really just don't know if I want to go or not. I know I should want to go, but really, I just want to veg out on my last few days. I picked up so much stuff already for school, and I really don't need many more clothes (or any) for school.

I did pick up the Pretty Little Liars series of books today. I know. I know. I love that show though so I thought I'd read the books, too. In fact, I'm going to read book one now.DanaElaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16038602066558868664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539236405670695183.post-31195738816089871572010-07-28T14:59:00.000-07:002010-07-28T15:05:10.866-07:00She waved a magic wand...Okay, it wasn't a magic wand, but I did win Courtney's Give-Away!
